The Town Mouse & the Country Mouse

A Short Children's Tale by Mr Marouane Derfoufi

A Town Mouse once visited a relative who lived in the country. For lunch the Country Mouse served wheat stalks, roots, and acorns, with a dash of cold water for drink. The Town Mouse ate very sparingly, nibbling a little of this and a little of that, and by her manner making it very plain that she ate the simple food only to be polite. After the meal the friends had a long talk, or rather the Town Mouse talked about her life in the city while the Country Mouse listened. They then went to bed in a cozy nest in the hedgerow and slept in quiet and comfort until morning. In her sleep the Country Mouse dreamed she was a Town Mouse with all the luxuries and delights of city life that her friend had described for her. So the next day when the Town Mouse asked the Country Mouse to go home with her to the city, she gladly said yes. When they reached the mansion in which the Town Mouse lived, they found on the table in the dining room the leavings of a very fine banquet. There were sweetmeats and jellies, pastries, delicious cheeses, indeed, the most tempting foods that a Mouse can imagine. But just as the Country Mouse was about to nibble a dainty bit of pastry, she heard a Cat mew loudly and scratch at the door. In great fear the Mice scurried to a hiding place, where they lay quite still for a long time, hardly daring to breathe. When at last they ventured back to the feast, the door opened suddenly and in came the servants to clear the table, followed by the House Dog.

The Country Mouse stopped in the Town Mouse's den only long enough to pick up her carpet bag and umbrella. "You may have luxuries and dainties that I have not," she said as she hurried away, "but I prefer my plain food and simple life in the country with the peace and security that go with it."

The Moral Here Children is:

IMPROVING ACCESS TO GREEN & BLUE SPACE

Public Health co-author The report is an update evidence on the health benefits of living in greener communities, the impact on inequalities in health and makes recommendations to help Local Authorities, policymakers and developers provide equitable greenspaces for communities. There is increasingly compelling evidence showing that access to greenspaces really In the report we identify a number of priorities:

Policy:

• Consider local green (and blue) space to be critical assets for maintaining and supporting health and wellbeing in local communities. • Ensure that local policies and strategies are informed by evidence of need for sufficient access to greenspace. •

Prioritise improving access to greenspace and creating greener communities especially in areas of deprivation or where there is poor or unequal access, as an important part of the wider plan to reduce health inequalities locally. Local practice: • Support meaningful engagement across local government functions and the community to understand the actual and potential local benefits of greenspace and reveal the complex and diverse ways greenspace is thought about and used. •

Consider whether a formal valuation of benefits is necessary to strengthen the case for the creation, revitalisation and maintenance of greenspace.

• Identify and factor in resilient funding arrangements for the maintenance of greenspace as early as possible, so that it can continue to provide benefits in the long term.

• Establish interventions, such as green social prescribing initiatives, that will support people who do not use greenspace to begin using it.

• Work with local NHS systems and professionals, including Sustainability and Transformation Partnerships and Integrated Care Systems, to promote the role greenspace plays in both individual and population health outcomes.

Local research:

• Develop persuasive, evidence-informed case studies that highlight the impact that accessible greenspace has on local health outcomes, especially for disadvantaged groups.

• Support robust evaluation of local greenspace interventions to help build a broader evidence base.

TIM From March 12 1989 spent the next 18 months developing technology that combined with the connectivity of the fledgling internet, would give us the World Wide Web. Crucially, it gave the previously impenetrable world of computer networking an attractive, accessible front end: the web browser. Today, 30 years on, the World Wide Web has had such a profound effect on humankind that it's hard to imagine what life would be like without it.

The idea of the "global village" would certainly evaporate; the world would feel a good deal bigger, and our place within it much smaller.

How we'd communicate with one another

While email existed long before the web, it was the creation of web services such as Hotmail that changed the way most of us communicate, and without them we'd be making expensive international phone calls, using sluggish airmail services and sending formal telegrams. Deprived of all the forms of communication the web has given us, from video conferencing to social networking, our social horizons would narrow substantially, and connections with old friends would fade more quickly.

We’d also lose the opportunity to show off our talents to the world by means of blogging, vlogging and much else besides. Of course, we’ll never stop making music, writing or telling stories, but the web has given everyone a potential global audience, whereas previously that privilege had been granted by a relatively small number of media companies. You may relish the idea of a world without shrill YouTube personalities catapulting themselves to international stardom, but the opportunities that they have grasped are open to us all. The web doesn’t make you a star, but it does allow you to actively pursue stardom, rather than quietly dream.

A less colourful world

Now we're able to entertain each other across the web, the idea of a few television and radio stations attempting to cater to our newly ravenous appetite for entertainment suddenly seems rather quaint. Without all the innovations prompted by the web, from video streaming to audiobooks, and from podcasting to viral memes, the world would be a lot less colourful – but the problem of information overload would disappear, too. We'd have more space to think, to wonder, to pay attention to those around us.

The effect of that information overload has been most profound in the world of news, and in a webless world the dissemination of information would once again be restricted to print newspapers, radio and television. While we'd undoubtedly miss the buzz of news breaking within seconds, that might be a price worth paying for the blocking of fake news, conspiracy theories and blatant untruth, all of which have been unwittingly promoted by the web. It's an exceptionally sharp double-edged sword; the web can quickly spread word about atrocities that would otherwise remain hidden and unnoticed, but it has also proved itself adept at undermining democracy.

Easier access

The web satisfies our search for answers on every topic imaginable, and Google has become our guru. By giving us access to the world's collective knowledge, search engines have made profound changes in not only the way we live, but the way we think. We search for our symptoms rather than consult a doctor, we consult Wikipedia rather than using our powers of recall, we try to rule out encounters with the unexpected by thoroughly researching any places we're due to visit. Access to information feels like a very modern privilege, but it's possible that the web has made it too easy to come by.

We’ve come to lean very heavily on the world wide web in the 21st century, but with every new social development comes a darker side. Without the web, we’d be sleeping better, socialising more and we would be more active. The connectivity it gives us is also exploited by those who wish us harm: cybercrime, cyberterrorism and cyberbullying would all disappear in a webless world. But on balance, as Berners-Lee hoped,

Transformative social change has always started in and with civil society.

The past two years have exposed and deepened the challenges facing London’s communities, and highlighted the care, creativity and solidarity that exists across the capital. Londoners’ have led the way in questioning, rethinking and reimagining how our systems and structures serve us and enable everyone to flourish. This is represented by the activists and organisers, artists and curators, its social entrepreneurs and frontline workers, by those that work in charities and those in local government, as well as by the individuals and networks exploring new ways of caring for each other and the world around them.

Now in its third year, the Civic Futures programme is designed to bring together these people who are active across London, to explore the skills, tools, methodologies, and relationships that we need to build emerging futures. It starts by asking: how can we build shared wisdom in making the transition to a better future? How do we best bring together some of the amazing people active across London to learn from and support each other in building that future?

A growing Fellowship facilitated by Koreo, Dark Matter Labs and The Young Foundation, in partnership with the Greater London Authority, Civic Futures will convene our third group of up to 30 people from across London’s civil society, local government and activist spaces to facilitate a collective learning and discovery experience. Running from September 2022 - May 2023, the programme will focus on peer connection, exploration and inquiry, systems thinking, and collaboration.

We need a civic society which can be both fiercely independent in organising itself, and also truly interdependent with all those seeking to explore and build alternative futures. 1st What is The Origin of term “New World Order” Where We Going

So-called “conspiracy theorists” are often accused of fabricating the concept of the New World Order. They need a Big Bad Guy to scapegoat for all of the world’s problems because they cannot cope with the intricate complexities of reality, or so the story goes.

This mindset is perfectly understandable. Of course the modern political landscape would seem quasi-mystical to the masses when it is strategically designed to be as incomprehensible as possible. Basic truths — like social hierarchy or the existence of race and human sexual tastes— are obfuscated by an endless torrent of lies, psyops, and disinformation.

(Perhaps “aimed,” is more accurate, since they achieved this goal decades ago). It saw increased usage during the First World War, which resulted in the League of Nations (world government 1.0), and the Second World War, which resulted in the United Nations (world government 2.0, a rebranding of the League of Nations).

Novus ordo seclorum (New order of the ages) from the Great Seal could be included also, or at least mentioned in this context. Anyway, what it’s all about is the same as always, packaged and presented during history in different ways and under different names: the Messianic Age with universal peace and brotherhood, the kingdom of God, no more conflicts, everyone will be happy, free and equal, i. e. when they have total control.

After WWII every country is (or was made deliberately) dependent on foreign trade.

I think another factor is the weakening of family bonds. The Nordic countries are famous for their social safety net. In one generation Finland (the Most Happiest Nation in Europe) turned from an agricultural society to one of the most prosperous countries in the world with large social benefits for families.

In short I would say changes in attitudes i.e. what is seen as ’cool’ and ’uncool’ people forgot who they are and instead there is ’civic nationalism’ nationality to them is like a ’fun club’ you can join and leave as you like.

Marouane Derfoufi has been called "the closest thing Silicon Valley has to a conscience" by The Wembley magazine. Prior to founding the new Center for M:Technology, he was 2010 Design Ethicist, developing a framework for how technology should "ethically" steer the thoughts and actions of billions of people from screens.
